US2011 - Villanova University

Founded in 1842 by the Order of Saint Augustine, Vilanova University is a private university located in Radnor Township, a suburb northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

Named for Saint Thomas of Villanova, it is the oldest Catholic university in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (I am still trying to find out if Pennsylvania was part of the Commonwealth before joining the United States).

The most prominent feature of the Villanova campus is St. Thomas of Villanova Church, a church built in Gothic Revival style back in 1883. And with a church on site, it is not surprising to see a Monastery, as well as a graveyard.

Connected to the St. Thomas Monastery is Tolentine Hall, one of the oldest buildings on campus.

In addition to classrooms and computer labs, it also houses the Registrar's Office and the Office of the President.

Right across from Tolentine is CEER, short for the Center for Engineering Education and Research.

To the east of the Church, lies St. Rita's Hall and Austin Hall.

In addition to being a residence hall, these two buildings also house the Campus Ministry Office and University Admissions Office, respectively.

Next to Austin Hall is Dougherty Hall, where most of the student activities take place. The campus’s main dining hall, Student Activity Offices and Wachovia Bank are some of the tenants in the building.

Across the road is Connelly Center, a triangular building that resembles an alpine ski lodge.

Here, it houses several eateries, meeting rooms, group study rooms, student lounge, campus cinema, and a conference room.

As it also houses the International Office, they also have an international flag display at the atrium of the building.

Further down the road is the Villanova Theatre ...

… and the Quad, …

… an intersection between two dormitories, Sheehan Hall and Sullivan Hall.

Bartley Hall, home to the Villanova School of Business is the last building, which is where the main campus ends.

Close to Bartley Hall are two new buildings, the Health Services …

… and Driscoll Hall, main building for the College of Nursing.

Also nearby is Villanova’s entrance, …

… and the Davis Center for Athletics and Fitness, home to the Villanova Wildcats.

Heading back to CEER from the main entrance, …

… one would pass by the new Law Building that is located across the railway tracks …

… and Kennedy Hall, also known as the University Shop.

Located further down is the Falvey Library, the campus's main research library, …

… and The Grotto, a landscaped garden between Alumni Hall and Corr Hall.

Interestingly, also located in The Grotto is a statue depicting Our Lady of Good Counsel and memorial plaques dedicated to the veterans of World War II and the Vietnam War.

And that, sums up my brief visual tour of Villanova University, …

… my workplace for the next five months.
