The Philadelphia International Flower Show, also the world’s largest indoor flower exhibition, is held annually in March at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Attracting more than 250,000 people annually, for 2011, visitors to the show were transported to the beautiful and romantic City of Light.
A blooming “Springtime in Paris” greeted guests with a bucolic park scene along the Seine.
Flowering trees, lilacs, roses and borders of lavender led visitors through gardens inspired by the Tuileries.
In the distance, a daring Moulin Rouge atmosphere was displayed with cabaret performances, spectacular flower sculptures and carousel topiaries.
Although they did not managed to fit the whole Eifel Tower into the Convention Center, miniatures of it were abundance throughout the exhibition.
In addition to the Parisian theme, several display gardens (as part of their annual competition) were also showcased. Among them included:
Impressions of Notre Dame by Robertson’s Flowers
Le Salon Des Fleurs by Jamie Rothstein
Underground Paris by American Institute of Floral Designers
La Toile Du Jardin by Michael Petrie’s Handmade Gardens
Timeless Treasures at Vacherot and Lecoufle by Waldor Orchids
Back Road State of Mind by Romano’s Landscaping
Reve de Fleurs by Flowers by David
Urban Graffiti by Michael Bruce Florist
Rooted in Ireland by Tourism Ireland
An American in Paris by Schaffer Designs
Musee de L’Esprit by Jacques Amand
En Pieir Air by Hunter Hayes Landscape Design
Tour de France by J. Downend Landscaping
Boites De Fleurs a la Mode by Beautiful Blooms Events
There was also a bustling Marketplace with an array of take-home products to get the garden started. Those stalls and products that caught my attention were:
Hanging water gardens
Desertlands’ cacti and succulents
Unique oil candles
Custom-made palm trees
Handmade embroidery
And the best part of the show, Free Wine Tastings, presented by the PA Wine & Spirits Store.
With over 15 tables showcasing different types of wines and spirits, I was lucky to be able to try the
Chocovine Cabernet Sauvignon and Chocolate from Holland
Chambord French Vodka from France
Arbor Mist Pomegranate Pinot Noir from USA
Sweet Carolina Sweet Tea Vodka from USA
Landy VS Cognac from France
Quay Vodka from France
Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka
Aperol Apertivo and Cavit Lunetta Prosecco from Italy
Barefoot Moscato from USA
… in addition to the Paul Jaboulet Parallele 45 (France), Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling (USA - Washington), Mouton Cadet Rose (France - Bordeaux), and George Duboeuf Beaujolais-Villages (France).
The $20 spent for the show was definitely well worth it!!
