MY2011 - Bali Hai

Although the exterior signboard reads Bali Hai Seafood Market, it is in fact, a dim sum restaurant in disguise!!

Serving dim sums in the morning and seafood at night, Bali Hai has been considered as one of the best dim sum restaurants in Penang.

In addition, it is also one of the only few self service dim sum restaurants in Malaysia. While dim sum dishes are generally wheeled around the restaurant on a trolley, Bali Hai has a self service system during weekends and public holidays, where customers are required to queue up in line to choose and collect the dishes.

And among the dishes that we managed to get from our queue included guo tie (pan-fried dumplings) …

… steamed fish balls …

… a variety of siew mai (pork dumplings) …

… ku chai kueh (vegetable dumplings) …

… stir-fried chicken with mushrooms …

… and meat balls with egg yolk.

Now, if they could introduce a conveyor belt for the dim sums (like those used in sushi restaurants), I am sure it would be the best convergence between the trolleys and self service counters.
