Dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, America’s Founding Father and the third President of the United States, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial is a neoclassical building modelled after the Pantheon of Rome.
Primarily known as the author of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson was also a statesman, architect, writer, scientist, horticulturist, inventor, musician, and founder of the University of Virginia. (He must have been extremely busy back then!!)
Besides a 19-foot bronze statue, the words of Thomas Jefferson, some written more than 200 years ago, adorn the interior walls of the memorial.
On site, is also the light and liberty exhibition, where the timeline of Jefferson’s life and career is outlined.
But the best part of this national icon is the view of Washington Monument from its steps.
For a few seconds, I did actually wonder why Jefferson (statue) is looking back at the White House and Washington (Monument)?!?!
