US2011 - Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts

As part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts 2011, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is transformed into a slice of Parisian streetscape.

Celebrating its transformation, the Commonwealth Plaza inside the Center was sculptured with an 81-foot light-bulb-filled Eiffel Tower.

Free performances, French wine tastings, French lessons and French food are also part of the daily program to keep the PIFA energy alive.

Organised by the PA Wine and Spirits Store, whom also hosted the free wine and spirits tastings at the Philadelphia International Flower Show, visitors get to sample a variety of French wines …

… before purchasing them at the on-site store.

As for food, the Parisian-stylized French Cart offers crepes and pastries for lunch and dinner.

Since they allow visitors to mix and match their fillings, I went for the dark chocolate, strawberries, rum bananas and preserved apricots. Yummy!!

But, the major highlight of the event, is the twice nightly Eiffel Tower Light Show where the 6000 light bulbs bring the whole Plaza to life.

And that, was just one of the 137 events in PIFA 2011!!
