AU2009 - Gold Coast: Day 1

Over the Queens’s birthday long weekend, we decided to take a short break in Gold Coast. Although the weather for the past few days was bad and the forecast looks terrible, we were surprised to be welcomed with a warm winter weather. Upon arriving at the Coolangatta Airport, we bought the 3 Day Freedom Pass that includes our return hotels transfers, return theme park transfers and unlimited local bus rides.

After a 30-minutes ride from the airport to the heart of Surfers Paradise, we arrived at our accommodation, Q1 (meaning Queensland Number 1).

Q1

Claiming the title of the world’s tallest residential tower, structurally, it is also the tallest building in Australia as well as the Southern Hemisphere at 322.5m (highest roof at 275m). However, in terms of the highest inhabitable floor, its the second tallest after Melbourne’s Eureka Tower (building height of 300m with highest roof at 297.3m).

Q1

Besides having one’s of the world’s few beachside observation deck at the 77th floor (QDeck), the Q1 Resort and Spa is a 5-star serviced apartment offering luxury one, two and three bedroom apartment accommodation with resort facilities. We checked into a one bedroom ocean view apartment on the 23rd floor.

Finally, we head back to Q1 for a good night’s sleep.
