It was Orientation Week at the University of Wollongong, …
… and for the first time, we had a visit from the Taronga Zoomobile.
Sponsored by the NSW Department of Education and Training, the Taronga Zoomobile has been specifically designed for schools (in our case, a university) that have difficulty going to the Zoo (which is almost 2 hours away by train plus ferry).
So, instead of us students going all the way to Sydney, the Zoo came to Wollongong for a visit, allowing students and staffs to meet, learn about and interact with native animals. During the week, the Zoomobile brought along a collection of Australian native animals, such as a snake, …
… an echidna, …
… a lizard, …
… a crocodile, …
… a cockatoo and …
… some stick insects.
They also brought along a Tawny Frogmouth (a kind of owl?), but unfortunately, it was not released to be seen. Anyway, I think it was really a good idea to invite the Zoo to O’Week and I am sure a lot of the students and staffs actually had fun interacting with the animals and the rangers.
