After our luxurious holiday at Tokoriki Island last year, we decided to experience the real Fiji this time, by checking out the main island of Viti Levu. Being the largest island in the Republic of Fiji Islands, Viti Levu is home to 70% of the population and is the hub of the entire archipelago of 330 islands. Since the heart of Fiji is contained within Viti Levu, a journey around the main island is probably the best way to discover the true Fijian culture, and Feejee Experience’s Hula Loop pass is the ideal tour to do just that.

Arriving into Fiji with Air Pacific, …
… we checked into Mercure Nadi for our two nights of pre-tour accommodation.
Disappointingly, the room was extremely run-downed, and probably, the only thing that is new in the room is the sink and the toiletries.
In addition to that, as there are no elevators in the hotel, we had to carry our bags up 3 floors of stairs.
Something quite unexpected from an Accor hotel. Anyway, after settling into the room, we went down to the Rokete Restaurant and Bar for our late night dinner.
Since it was Christmas and they had a Christmas menu, we had no choice but to pay a little extra for our meals.
Here, we ordered the Chicken on Lemon Skewers combined with Fresh Mint, Basil and Crushed Ginger for entree …
… and for our mains, the Baked Glazed Ham with Pineapple, Fried Zucchini, and Lightly Roasted Potato …
… and Fettuccine Pasta tossed with Grilled Fish and Lemon Butter Sauce.
All in all, for our first day in Nadi, it wasn’t all that bad, except for the over-priced food and the standard of the hotel (will definitely avoid Mercure if there’s a next time).
