Dining in at Izakaya Kasumi …
… is probably the funnest (yes, there is such a word according to Urban Dictionary!!) dining experience that I have ever come across in Sydney!
As TimeOut Sydney puts it, there are only four words to describe Kasumi: Noodles. On. A. Waterslide. …
… and that was the very first thing that we ordered! While waiting for the Nagashi Soumen (Flowing Angel Hair Flour Noodle) to be served, we also sampled their famed potato cheese …
… and Takoyaki Russian Roulette.
Consisting of six Takoyakis (octopus balls), one of them had a hot chilli filling ...
… and obviously, the challenge was to try our luck and hopefully not end up getting the one with chilli.
During our visit, we also wanted to try their famous Salmon Skin Chips, but unfortunately, it was sold out for the day. Anyway, as the Nagashi Soumen was served, we were quite disappointed as we did not get the water slide, even after being assured by the waitress that she will get us one. Instead, we were served a spa bath.
With a push of that magic black button, a whirlpool effect is generated where the water will flow continuously and the challenge is to catch the flowing noodles …
… before dipping them into the dipping sauce, just like how a normal soumen would be consumed.
Since Izakaya literally means a drinking establishment in Japanese, …
… a visit wouldn’t be complete without trying out their drink offerings. With the sake, cocktail and mocktail menu in hand, …
… we ordered their Cassis Orange …
… and Dragon Martini (a combination of chilli and lychee).
To end the night, we decided to indulge ourselves with a serving of chocolate fondue …
… but was again told that it was unavailable. Thus, we ended up having their Coffee Jelly instead.
Despite all those disappointments, we reckon that Kasumi did a good job in terms of their service and innovativeness. We will definitely be back again soon!!
