Our Cool Dingo Tour departs at 8.00am where we were picked up from the YHA to the Urangan Boat Harbour. After checking into the Kingfisher Bay Mainland Terminal, we took a 45 minutes cruise across the Great Sandy Strait over to Fraser Island.
Cruising across the Great Sandy Strait
Arriving into Kingfisher Bay, our Cool Dingo ranger-guide met us at the jetty.

We were also welcomed by a sea eagle.

After all the introductions and a quick briefing, our 4WD adventure begins with the roller coaster ride uphill into the Great Sandy National Park. There was also a dingo fence at the top to prevent dingoes from entering the resort.

Our first stop for the day is the beautiful green Basin Lake.
Basin Lake
We had a chance to walk a loop around the lake to spot for the resident freshwater turtles.
Around the Basin Lake
Unfortunately, we weren’t that lucky to spot them. Next, we make our way to Wanggoolba Creek, a silently flowing creek.
Ferns and mushrooms along our way
We walked along the banks of this silent flowing creek with lush green rainforest and rare king ferns.
Wanggoolba Creek
The creek was so clear that you can easily see through to the bottom. One can easily mistaken them as a sandy footpath than a creek.

Next stop, lunch at Central Station. Unlike Sydney’s Central Station, there are no trains or whistles here. Fraser Island’s Central Station is a peaceful, ancient rainforest with the remainders of a former, once bustling logging camp. The station is surrounded by bushwalking tracks to enable full appreciation of the variety of plants living on the island. Some of the rarest ferns grow along the rainforest near the station.

After lunch, we checked out the most famous tourist attraction on Fraser Island, Lake McKenzie.
Lake McKenzie postcard shot
The picture perfect Lake McKenzie, with its white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, is even prettier than the postcards.
Lake McKenzie
We had a chance to have a refreshing swim in the lake. However, due to the gloomy winter weather, all of us gave it a miss, until another tour group arrived jumping into the lake as though it was summer.
Notice the contrast in the clothing.. Bikini versus sweaters!!
Although a little cold, we still went into the water for a few pictures. Again, you can easily see the bottom of the crystal clear lake. Its is said that the beach sand of Lake McKenzie is nearly pure silica and it is possible to wash hair, teeth, jewellery, and exfoliate one's skin.

After the refreshing swim (our legs only), we head back to the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village for our overnight at the Wilderness Lodge.
