AU2007 - Fraser Island 4WD: Day 1 (Pre-Tour)

Fraser Island, one of Australia’s World Heritage Site, is considered to be the largest sand island in the world at 1840 km². Famous for its dune lakes, all the freshwater lakes on the island are some of the cleanest lakes in the world.

Places of interests on Fraser Island that we visited

Since four-wheel drives are required for some landings and to travel around the island, we decided to visit Fraser Island on a 4WD tour with Cool Dingo Tour.

day 1

We flew into Hervey Bay Airport from Sydney before checking into our accommodation at Colonial Log Cabins YHA.

Our itinerary for the day is pretty much killing time in Hervey Bay. And since its winter, snugging under the blanket is probably the most appropriate activity for the whole tour. However, we still managed to fight the cold weather to walk around the Hervey Bay harbour front area.

Hervey Bay is a small string of townships where the main economy relies on tourism, for which whale watching, Fraser Island and Lady Elliot Island are the major drawcards.

After the quick stroll along the harbour front, its time to get ready for our 4WD safari departure early tomorrow.
