AU2010 - Southern Gateway Centre

Thanks to the Australian government, …

… the Illawarra escarpment now has a new lookout for visitors to enjoy the stunning coastal views.

Part of a brand new $11M complex, …

… known as the Southern Gateway Centre, …

… the building houses the Jumbulla Aboriginal Discovery Centre, Wollongong’s latest attraction showcasing Aboriginal history of the Illawarra and South Coast; Altitude 1148, Wollongong’s new premier (read: expensive) dining destination; and Tourism Wollongong’s Visitor Information Centre.

Armed with plasma screens, interactive kiosks and modern interior design, …

… this centre is definitely a useful addition since it is one of only six tourist gateways in the state. The only problem, north-bound visitors from Wollongong and the South Coast will have to drive an additional 4km (2km uphill past the centre before U-turning down into the centre) just to get there!!!
