FJ2009 - Tokoriki Island: Day 3

After two days of dining at the restaurant, we felt that it may be worth signing up for the meal plan as long as we do not skip meals and ate as much as possible (limited to one full breakfast meal plus continental buffet, 2 course lunch and 3 course dinner) during the day. And so for breakfast, …

Nice table setting

… we each ordered a full breakfast meal …

Coffee and tea to start the day

Eggs benedict, poached eggs with smoked salmon

Pancake stack

… in addition to helping ourselves with the buffet.

Continental breakfast buffet, your choice of pastries, fruits and cereals

I guess the best way to burn all the calories is to join the round-the-island snorkelling trip.

Heading out towards the open sea

Cruising around Tokoriki Island on the glass bottom boat, …

The glass bottom boat was quite a disappointment as you can’t really see things clearly

… we circumnavigated Tokoriki, stopping at several different sites for snorkelling. Our first stop was at the Southern tip of the island.

The Southern tip reefs that were partially destroyed by the cyclone?

Although we were told that cyclone Mick did quite a lot of damage to the reefs, the views beneath were still amazing. Cruising on, …

… our second stop for the day was at the Northern tip of the island. As we had to swim quite a distance with heavy waves during our first stop, we gave this stop a miss.

Shallow waters provided greater visibility, and we don’t have to swim in huge waves

Due to the shallow waters and a more protected area along the shoreline, we were told that the reefs over here were much better than those from the previous stop. Last but not the least, our final snorkelling stop was at Tokoriki’s home reef …

Tokoriki home reef that’s full of colourful fishes

… which is only a few metres off the coast from the resort.

Although known as the best spot for snorkelling around the island, I guess we were just too tired to swim further and still had a headache from the waves earlier. Anyway, besides, the lovely snorkelling, it was a great chance for us to see what's on the other side of the island, such as rock climbing crabs …

… and birds nesting nearby.

After the fun but tiring trip, its “food” time again, where we were served a two course lunch at the restaurant …

Lunch menu that was slightly changed, although dessert menu remained the same

Quite a disappointment - prawn nasi goreng without the prawns

Pork with Orange and Caesar Salad

Fruit salad

Chocolate Roulade

… before snoozing off in bed until dinner time. As sunset approaches, …

… we head over to the poolside …

Buffet area by the poolside

… for our Mongolian buffet dinner.

Mongolian night on Sundays

Being seated at the private deck dining area, …

Our private deck

… we were served with great sunset views …

… in addition to the great food for the night (but the Christmas dinner was actually much better).

Us!!

Bread rolls and fish chowder soup

Tomatoes and cucumbers, with mixed salad, potato salad and pasta salad

Rice, noodles, soy fish and Mongolian BBQ of your choice of meat

Fruits, peach cheesecake, and brownies for dessert.

Our private deck area was also a great place to watch the fire lighting by the warrior …

… but as usual, the only thing that spoils the dinner are the mosquitoes that attacked us the whole night before the weather turned windy.
