AU2012 - Golden Legends Malaysian Seafood

After enquiring around, we were recommended to try out Golden Legends, apparently one of the best Asian restaurant in the Gold Coast. However, we just did not expect it to be a Malaysian restaurant, where the full name was actually Golden Legends Malaysian Seafood Restaurant.

While the waitress was kind enough to recommend to us all their seafood offerings, we decided to stick to the basics, that is the common Malaysian dish.

Among the dishes that we ordered included the Beef Rendang …

… Sambal Kangkung …

… and Salted Fish Tofu.

The highlight of the meal, was the specially ordered Fried Chicken, an item not listed in the menu.

Our verdict, generally not bad, except for the high prices!!

AU2012 - Viet de Lites

Located at the exquisite dining and retail area of Little Stanley Street, Viet de Lites offers a range of unique Vietnamese delicacies in Brisbane.

By combining different Vietnamese cooking style and techniques of grilled, pan-fried and stir-fry, a unique menu that contains specially chosen dishes was developed. While there, our dinner started off with the serving of paper rolls.

Then came our mains of spring rolls vermicelli salad …

… beef pho …

… and grilled pork and egg with broken rice.

Since communal dining is very common in Asia, Viet de Lites aims to create an atmosphere where strangers can meet and become friends over good food and wine.

But I think they failed on that end since we didn’t get to meet new friends after dinner. LOL!!

AU2012 - Le Jardin

We are back to Palazzo Versace for coffee again, but this time to try out their Le Jardin by day menu!! And our pick for the day was the Versace Signature Cake!!

Consisting of layers of almond, orange, praline and ganache, with a mirrored dark chocolate finish, the cake is also served with berry compote and whipped cream. Accompanying that is our choice of tea, the herbal infused Chamomile tea.

In addition, we also ordered the Americano, …

… Cappucino …

… Latte …

… and Iced Chocolate.

Yummm… another luxurious after meal treat!!

AU2012 - Ace Wasabi’s

After being known as “the Marina hotspot” in San Francisco, it seems that Ace Wasabi’s is now trying to achieve that title again at the opposite end of the world. More specifically, the Gold Coast!!

With 3 branches spreaded across the Gold Coast,  we decided to check out the one at Marina Mirage.

Like any sushi bar, they offer the standard selection of Nigiri, Maki and Temaki.

Among those that we tried included the Sake Nigiri …

… Ebi Nigiri …

… and Ebi Tempura Roll.

We just did not expect them to also serve Vietnamese Rolls …

… Ebi Fry …

… and Deep Fried Calamari.

For something more filling, they also offer an A La Carte menu.

The sushi alternatives that we tried included the Kitsune Udon …

… Karaage Don …

… and Teriyaki Beef Don.

Not sure if New York Times will crown them “the Marina hotspot” title again, but for us, it is definitely a no, since nothing really stood out, in comparison to other Japanese restaurants that we have tried!!

AU2012 - Kamikaze Teppanyaki

Famed for their fresh ingredients and theatrical culinary experience, Kamikaze has been growing tremendously over the past 8 years, especially in the Gold Coast region.

Besides the ingredients, I suppose, the main differentiating factor among teppanyaki restaurants in Australia is the sauce.

Thus, during our visit, we decided to try their home made Kamikaze Sauces. With two types of homemade sauces to choose from, we coupled the Kamikaze Special Sauce, a mixture of honey, garlic and soy sauce, with cuttlefish …

… and the Kamikaze Gourmet Sauce, a mixture of sweet wine, ginger and lime, with kangaroo meat.

For something more traditional, we also ordered for the Teppan Sirloin Steak …

… and the Teppan Sweet Chilli Chicken.

As a complement to the meaty dishes, every order also came with a Kamikaze Salad, miso soup and rice.

Our verdict, we liked the Kamikaze Gourmet Sauce, but maybe not with kangaroo meat. Might have tasted better if we have had it with chicken!!

AU2012 - MOS Burger

Founded in 1972, MOS Burger is the second-largest fast-food franchise in Japan after McDonald’s. With its rapid expansion all over East Asia, MOS Burger has finally arrived into Australia.

Offering a selection of gourmet burgers with a Japanese touch, both normal and rice burgers are available in Australia.

Among the burgers that we tried included the Teriyaki Chicken Burger, …

… Spicy MOS Burger, …

… Beef Yakiniku, …

… and Kimchi Pork Ginger.

We also ordered the Seafood Kakiage, but since it turned out extremely different, we weren’t exactly sure what was actually being served.

Anyway, for each set that we ordered, we have the option to choose between a Large Chips or Sunny Green Salad with our Cranberry Iced Tea.

But what I found most interesting is the fact that they actually provide instructions on how to eat burgers with proper etiquette.

Maybe McDonald’s should implement that too!! And maybe, Canadian-based Japadog should also consider venturing into Australia!!
